I have been riding horses competively for 12 years. I got this tattoo in October 2010 on the year anniversary of owning my first horse, Lukas. I spent 10 years in a position where I could not afford a horse of my own so I was constantly working with and showing numerous horses. Lukas found his way into my life in October of 2009. I realized I couldn’t live without him & my family pulled together to buy the beautiful animal. He was everything I wanted & more.
Lukas was a Hanoverian Warmblood imported from Germany. Prior to his arrival to the USA, he was hot-iron branded with this symbol, as are many other Hanoverian horses. The brand is placed on the horse’s left hind, equivilent to a human’s left hip, which is where I got the tattoo.
On April 4, 2011, I had to make the horrible decision to put Lukas was put to sleep due to tragic medical problems. This tattoo means even more to me now, than on the day I got it.
I chose to show this picure of Lukas because it was a day where I was having a typical goof-ball day, climbing all over my tolerant team mate. Although my actions pictured are far from professional, it shows the bond we shared & it brings tears to my eyes every time I see it.
I circled his brand in the photo.
The tattoo was done at Adrenaline in Brick, NJ.
